Demographics of Pakistan


Nowadays, the population of Pakistan is 200,800,000 and the growth rate is 2.2%. Birth rate is 31 births/1,000 population and death rate is 8 deaths/1,000 population. Life expectancy is 63 years(male 62.4 years and female 64.44 years). Fertility rate is 3.58 children born/woman. In 2008, net migration rate is -1.0 migrant(s)/1,000 population. In this country 48.7 % of the population can read and write.

Geographic distribution


The most of southern Pakistan's population lives in the Indus River. The most popular city in Pakistan is Karachi. In the north, most of the people lives in Faisalabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Peshawar.

Educational Institutions

In Pakistan, there are 157,157 primary schools, 30,419 middle schools, 17,231 secondary schools. In addition, there are also 1174 arts and Science colleges, 408 professional colleges and 52 universities.
